Review #1207; Rum #521

Here we have a bottling of rum under the Alambique Serrano brand distilled by the Krassel family in Santa Maria Tlalixtac, Oaxaca, Mexico. This rum was distilled from fresh pressed cane juice grown at upwards of 4000 feet elevation. This crushed cane was distilled on the Krassel family’s custom built still and bottled at still strength with no additives.

Distillery: Canada

Bottler: Alambique Serrano

Region: Oaxaca

Still: Krassel

ABV: 70.3%

Nose: Vegetal, Brine, Vanilla, Lemon Peel, Touch of Vinegar, Apple, Minerality, Orange Peel, Nuttiness

Palate:   Thick oily mouthfeel, Cardamom, Minerality, Orange Peel, Vinegar, Lemon Peel, Brine, Rainwater, a bit nutty and cheesy

Finish: Long length finish, Minerality, Lavender, Orange Peel, Vinegar, Lemon Peel, Brine, Rainwater, nutty and cheesy

Conclusion: What an impressive rum, packed full of minerality, fruits, and a touch of vinegar. It drinks well under its proof and the finish lasts an impressive amount of time. This is one of the top unaged rums I’ve had when it comes to flavor and drinkability. Just well balanced and executed all over.
