Ever skip a whisky and then review a shite ton of the others from the distillery? Well, then you may be TOModera!

I’ve gone on and on about Auchentoshan, ever since my wife bought me a bottle of the consistent and always nice 12 year. Scroll down and you can find me blathering on about them in some past reviews.

That being said, I never have review the Auchentoshan Classic. I’ve had it, sure, before I was writing reviews while sobering up the morning after (writing reviews, I am usually sobering up).

The Auchentoshan Classic is aged solely in American Oak barrels, and is triple distilled, as is the Auchentoshan way. Let’s see what the opening pitch of the distillery is like

Price: N/A in Ontario

Color: Light pee

Nose: Pears, oranges, floral, honey, lime

Like an orchard, and a little stronger nose than I was expecting. Quite floral, yet it’s hard to make out individual smells, as it all smashes together.

Taste: Lime, oranges, cumin, mineral water, amber honey, pear

I originally wrote lime twice, and that’s because you really taste the lime in here. Lot’s of lime flavour in here, and thank goodness, as otherwise the mineral water and cumin would take over and I’d have to buy another dram and then I’d flood more reviews onto the site and you know who would win then? The terrorists, that’s who.

Finish: Earthy, burn, mushroom, chipotle, dry pear perry

Short finish, takes awhile to even notice anything here. Quite dry, with the only fruit being a lingering, dry perry taste. Wish it had more sweetness.

Conclusion: It’s sweet, and they should retire it for their 12 year old. Is it bad? No, not by a long shot, but is it worth having this and the 12 year and the Triple Wood out there? Debatable, though if you were drinking this while debating it, you’d be hard pressed to find a good reason beyond mixing.
