Distillery: Clynelish
Bottler: La Maison du Whisky
Region: Highland
Price: $11 for 2 oz.
ABV: 48%
Cask Type: Ex-Sherry
Age: 20 Year.
Color: 1.2, Chestnut/Oloroso Sherry.
Nose: It’s like a literal breath of crisp, clean, fresh mountain air. There’s a bit of sharp citrus notes in a bit of lemonade and grapefruit as well.
Palate: Very light and bright. Just as the nose teases, there’s a lot of citrus going on here in the form of sweet lemons and grapefruit. A bit of sugar comes along with it giving it a slight bit of an citrus liqueur taste. There’s a hint of carbonated mineral water as well.
Finish: Medium in length. More of the grapefruit and more of the mineral water. A hint of green Jolly Ranchers pops up towards the back.
Conclusion: This special bottling by La Maison du Whisky is the third Clynelish I’ve tried. All three of them have shared the same theme of being really refreshing. It’s like they were made to be enjoyed on a hot summer day to help cool you down. The citrus notes, particularly the grapefruit, plays well with the mineral water. The bits of sugar that pop in make gives this just the right amount of sweetness to make you want to keep drinking. All and all, a really lovely dram. Would I buy a bottle? Unfortunately, I doubt I could find one.
