Age: 25 year. Distilled in 1965.
ABV: 43.00%
Color: 1.3, Russet/Muscat.
Nose: (according to the wife) Fruity. You get fuyu persimmons, both when fully ripe and also in the dried form. A bit of citrus zest and limoncello pops in here and there. Roasted chestnuts and a small note of daisies wrap things up.
Palate: Pleasantly warm malt. You get a little bit of limoncello sparkling water and a tiny hint of overripe fuyu persimmons.
Finish: Medium in length. Fruity malt and mineral water make up most of whats going on. The tiny bit of daisies from the nose pop up once more.
Conclusion: This Glen Moray bottling for Japan’s All Nippon Airways comes from an era when the distillery did their own maltings in-house. These days, Glen Moray is a bit of a bottom shelf budget whisky (though they have been putting out some interesting cask experiments) so I was really curious how their past work might taste like. Unfortunately, this whisky shares a little too much in common with modern Glen Moray. While the nose is fun and there are a few fun notes that pop up here and again, the vast majority of this dram is utterly boring. It’s incredibly easy to drink, which is perhaps what they were going for, but that doesn’t result in anything particularly memorable. Glad to have tried this, but it will not live long in the memory.
