Nose: Super rich sherry all over the place. It’s flowing out of the glass. Aromatics join the sweet sherry notes. Eucalyptus, thyme, and bay leaves are some of the most prominent ones. A bit of chocolate covered almonds and coffee beans come in as well.
Palate: Sherry, sherry, and more sherry. Chocolate pops in as well, it’s a quite rich semi-dark chocolate that just goes so well with the sherry notes. Some more of the almonds, as well as a bit of almond brittle, come through here along with some espresso.
Finish: Long in length. The almond brittle note from the palate continues and it’s joined by a honeycomb toffee that lasts until the very end.
Conclusion: Is that a siren going on outside? There probably should be one as this is a massive, massive sherry bomb. Everything you want from a GlenDronach is here. Sherry flows out from the moment you pour a dram to the very, very last moments it lingers on your tongue. There’s some lovely aromatic notes that make it a lot of fun to nose. The earthier notes of espresso, almond brittle, and honeycomb toffee help reign in the sweet sherry and preventing it from getting out of balance. All in all, a really good whisky and a really good expression of how amazing GlenDronach can be.
Final Score: 91.
