Edradour 11 Year (2008) Ibisco Decanter

Age: 11 Year. Distilled October 22nd, 2008. Bottled April 24, 2020.

ABV: 58.0%. Cask Strength.

Cask Type: Bourbon Cask.

Color: 0.6, Old Gold. Natural Color and Non-Chill Filtered.

Nose: It’s quite sweet! Vanilla royal icing and coconut macaroons are the major notes here. A bit of coconut sugar appears as well.

Palate: It’s quite drinkable at full strength. On the very first sip, there was a rush of citrus that never popped up again. Coconut in the form of toasted coconut and macaroons pops in again. You get a note of toasted sugar and some vanilla as well. A dalgona/달고나 note wraps this up. After dash of water, nothing seemed to change much until much later. I had this dram over the course of a couple of hours, and towards the very end came some nutella and fruit jam.

Finish: On the shorter side of things. The coconut and sugar notes come in nicely.

Conclusion: I don’t have much of a sweet tooth but every so often I get a slight itch for something super sugary and this scratched that itch beautifully. The nose is sugary, almost cloyingly sweet, with a great combination of vanilla and coconut coming through. Those same notes continue on through the palate and finish, why mess with something so tasty after all? The transformation towards nutella and fruitiness after a lot of air time was nice to see, as this could use a little more complexity to what it has. Overall, this was incredibly tasty though a touch simplistic and perfect for satisfying a sweets craving.

Final Score: 82.

Home is where the corn is! Or at least that's what I told the wife before moving her from sunny Southern California to the Midwest anyway. She doesn't share my love of scotch, the drink, but has been incredibly supportive of my little wander down the rabbit hole.
