Review by: The Muskox

I usually don’t drink or review very much Canadian whisky, but my best friend gifted me this gorgeous official miniature of J.P. Wiser’s 15, so I’ve got to pour it and take some notes. Given how ubiquitous this whisky is at liquor stores here in Ontario, I’m surprised that there are only a few reviews of it on Reddit.
Distillery: Wiser’s.
Bottler: Official bottling.
Region: Canada.
ABV: 40%.
Age: 15 years.
Cask type: A combination of new oak casks, refill casks, and fresh ex-bourbon casks.
Price: $56 CAD.
Color: Light amber. Natural Color. Chill-filtered.
Nose: Light, grainy, and fragrant. Sugary-sweet notes of corn, brown sugar, and cream soda. Clove-studded orange and strawberry-banana smoothie. Ginger chews and some extremely subtle rye.
Palate: Medium-thin texture. Arrives sweet with brown sugar, orange creamsicle, and banana candies. Spicy oak on the development, as well as dried ginger and sweet tea. Slightly grainy and green in the middle.
Finish: Short and woody-sweet, but with a lingering sugar-syrupiness. Rich spice notes of nutmeg and cinnamon. Brown sugar. Toasted wood. Lingering green grassiness – sweet peas?
Possible SMWS bottling name: “Syrupy woodsicle”
Conclusion: It’s not particularly good, but it has its moments. Despite a rather thin body, there’s this sticky syrupy texture to go with the rich brown sugar flavour. The nose also has a rather fragrant complexity to it. That said, it’s mostly grainy and has a bit of a metallic green note in the middle that I really dislike. I was strangely tempted to pour this over ice, which I never do with anything.
