Tormore 21 Year (1995) Signatory Vintage

Review by: The Muskox

Tormore seems like sort of a hot underground distillery nowadays, at least it does if you talk to u/FederalAgents as much as I do. Here’s one from Signatory Vintage.

Distillery: Tormore.

Bottler: Signatory Vintage.

Region: Speyside.

ABV: 43%, cask strength.

Age: 21 years old. Distilled on 09/29/1995. Bottled on 12/09/2016.

Cask type: Cask #20320, Hogshead.

Color: Pale gold. No colour added, chill-filtered.

Nose: Malty and fragrant. Well-risen pizza dough. Hay and sandalwood. Sweet juicy orange, buttercream, banana bread. Very slightly briny and earthy. Freshly-pulled-up flowers? A bit of an aged dusty books note.

Palate: Medium-thin texture. Malty arrival, nutty and browned-buttery. Freshly-planed oak, slivered almonds, and salted caramel in the middle. As it develops further the oak note gets darker, thicker, and more aged. Slightly deeper fruit notes too – ripe peach and musky mango. A bit of tart plum.

Finish: Medium-length, starting to get richer. More malt – buttered toast. Almond extract and a hint of vanilla. Fuzzy peach, coconut, and more mango. There’s a heavy fragrant note that lingers here.

Possible SMWS bottling name: “Post-peach-picking patio pint”

Notes: A little forgettable, but very solid. Tormore seems to be in that kind of “generic-scotch” flavour profile like some other blend-y distilleries. This bottling does have nice muskiness, doughiness, bright peachiness, and abundant mangotude, and doesn’t really suffer too badly from its low bottling strength. I’d be very happy to have a bottle of this around for casual sipping. I’m glad my sample of this is finished, as it’s just making me even more sad that summer has ended.

Final Score: 83.
