Dailuaine 10 Year (2010) Hunter Laing The Sovereign K&L Wines pick

Review by: The Muskox

It’s Dailuaine! It’s young! It’s from K&L! Not much more to add, really.

Distillery: Dailuaine.

Bottler: Hunter Laing.

Region: Speyside.

ABV: 59.4%, cask strength.

Age: 10 years old. Distilled in 2010. Bottled in 2021.

Cask type: Sherry Butt.

Price: $55 USD at K&L Wines.

Color: Light gold. No colour added, un-chillfiltered.

Nose: Very fragrant – lemongrass, lemon oil, basil, and dandelions. Gingerbread and almonds. Fragrant vanilla and coconut. Lightly malty, slight sourdough.

Palate: Light texture, a little hot. Arrives very light, whipped cream and slightly mineral (wet slate). Lemon-iced pound cake, almond extract, and melted butter. Gets a bit sherbety (in a waffle cone) towards the finish.

A dribble of water gives slightly more flavour and a slightly richer texture. Tangerine, cocoa powder, and hints of oak. Some raspberry tea maybe.

Finish: Fairly light. Lingering dusted spices, steamed milk, vanilla. Lingering malt. Fatty notes of butter, white chocolate, and coconut oil. The ghost of sherry.

The water adds loads of staying power and more sweetness.

Possible SMWS bottling name: “Sun room tea and cakes”

Notes: It’s good, not particularly interesting but not flawed at all. Very refined and delicate: I’m certain that this sherry cask is a refill a couple times over at least. I like the fattiness and the flavorsome finish. Water is mandatory for max flavour, I think. The price is nice at least.

Final Score: 81.
