This rum comes to us from independent bottlers 1423 from their SBS line. This rum was distilled in 2001 from molasses, put into an ex-bourbon cask, and aged for 21 years before being bottled at cask strength. This was distilled on Savalle Column still.

Nose:  Burnt Caramel, Dark Chocolate, Black Tea, Vanilla, Black pepper, espresso

Palate: Thick oily mouthfeel, lemon zest, Dark Chocolate, Black Pepper, Espresso

Finish: Medium length finish, Espresso, Black Pepper, Dark Chocolate, Vanilla, Lemon Zest


Conclusion:  great example of DDL rum for me. A good balance of sweet and savory with that Espresso note carrying the day for me.

  • 70-74: Meh. It’s definitely drinkable, but it can do better.
  • 60-69: Not so good. I might not turn down a glass if I needed a drink.
  • 50-59: Save it for mixing.
  • 0-49: Blech.
