Long Pond 3 Year (2019) Habitation Velier STC<3E

Review by: The Auditor

This rum comes to us from dependent bottler Velier who worked in conjunction with the Lond Pond distillery in Jamaica. This rum from molasses was aged for 3 years tropically before being bottled with no additives at a high proof. This rum is the STC<3E marque which clocks in at 550—700 Esters gr/hL AA.

Distillery: Long Pond

Bottler: Habitation Velier

Region: Jamaica

Still: Pot

Marque: STC<3E (550-700 gr/HLAA)

ABV: 60%. Cask strength.

Age:  3 years. Distilled in 2019. Bottled in 2022.

Cask type: Ex-Bourbon, 3 years in Jamaica

Color: Natural Color. Non-chill-filtered.

Nose: Lemon Pledge, Earthy, Brine, slight coconut, pineapple

Palate: Medium mouthfeel, Lemon Pledge, Brine, Coconut, pineapple, allspice

Finish: Short finish, a touch of sour, lemon zest, brine, coconut, black tea

Conclusion: You know what, this is just ok. IT\t hits some nice notes here. Over-ripe fruits, lemon, spices. They work very well together overall. This is held back by a weird sour bitter oakiness. I’m not sure if it needs slightly more oak or to just be unaged, it just feels stuck where it is. I’m not usually asking for more oak in my rums, but this could use a few more years in the cask.
