This bottle of rum (or sample in this case) we have here is from Raising Glasses, an independent bottler located in the Northeast of the United States. Hot off of 4 single casks in 2022 they have these new casks coming soon that I will be trying. This rum comes to us from Beenleigh distillery located in Eagleby Queensland, Australia. This rum was fermented with the S. Pombe yeast, distilled from molasses on a Pot and Column still. It was then aged for 11 years in Australia before being shipped to the UK to age for another 5 years in the United Kingdom. It was then bottled at cask strength with no additives.

Distillery: Beenleigh

Region: Australia

Still: Pot and Column

ABV: 68.3%. Cask strength.

Age: 16 years. Distilled in 2007. Bottled in 2023.

Cask type: Unknown, 11 years in Venezuela, 5 years in the UK

Price: N/A

Color: Natural Color. Non-chill-filtered.

Nose: Pear skin, over-ripe blueberry, Apple, Minerality, Mint

Palate: Thick oily mouthfeel, Pear Skin, Apple, Minerality, cinnamon, black tea, lemon zest, nutmeg, Mint

Finish: Long finish, Minerality, Pear Skin, Apple, Cinnamon, Black Tea, Allspice, Mint

Conclusion: This is quite tasty. Its up there with the Single Cask nation beenleigh, but I like it more than that one. Minerality, fruits, spices, and a nice oak structure make for a complex and delicious Australian rum. It drinks below proof, but I would hope it takes water well (I only have an ounce to work with so not adding much myself). Some great rum coming from Australia and I hope to try more of it in the future.
