Review #1060; Rum #388

Here we have the 22nd release of Foursquare’s exceptional cask series. This particular bottling was born out of a collaboration with Camus, the Cognac producer, and their Caribbean Expedition Cognac program. Foursquare used their Camus casks to aged 12 year old ex-bourbon rum for a second maturation for another 2 years. This rum was blended with another set of rums from Foursquare that aged for 5 years in ex-bourbon and a further 9 in ex-cognac cask. Let’s see how this latest foray is.
Distillery: Foursquare
Bottler: Foursquare
Region: Barbados
Still: Pot/Column Blend
ABV: 61%.
Cask: 5 Years in ex-bourbon in Barbados, 9 years in ex-Cognac. Also 12 years in ex-bourbon and 2 years in ex-cognac. Those two rum were then blended together and bottled at high proof.
Nose: Plums, blackberries, toasted coconut, orange peel, cinnamon, Raisins
Palate: Medium oily mouthfeel, blackberries, orange peel, cinnamon, toasted coconut, vanilla, black tea, milk chocolate
Finish: : Medium length finish, milk chocolate, orange peel, cinnamon, toasted coconut, black tea
Conclusion: While a very good and slightly more fruit forward offering, this isn’t quite as good as previous releases to me. The classic Foursquare is here along with those dark fruits. Good mouthfeel and not overly hot but for me it lacks the complexity and depth of some of the previous releases.
