Islay Rum Co Geal 2022

Review by: The Auditor

Review #1079; Rum #407

This is the first release from the Islay Rum Company, which was distilled at the Old Lemonade Factory in Port Ellen. This rum is distilled from molasses, fermented for 4 days, and pot distilled on a double retort pot still.

Distillery: Islay Rum Company

Bottler: Islay Rum Company

Region: Islay, Scotland

Still: Pot

ABV: 45%

Color: Natural Color. Non-chill-filtered.

Nose: Slight Brine, Peppercorn, vanilla

Palate: Medium mouthfeel, slight vanilla, brine

Finish: Short finish, slight pepper, vanilla, brine

Conclusion: I’ve seen a lot of internet hype around Islay Rum Co and reading about them I can see why. Long fermentation times, dunder, etc for some of their experimental releases. For a first entry, I can see the thought as this is appealing and easy to drink. However, coming from Islay, I was not hoping for Peat but hoping for really bold flavors that stood out. This is a bit gentle and I was hoping for more flavor and oomph behind that flavor.

Final Score: 77
