Eminente Ron De Cuba  10 Yr 2012 Excellence Rhum Batch 2

Review by: The Auditor

Review #1083; Rum #410

This is a bottling of rum done by LVMH in conjunction with Excellence Rum. This is Cuban rum, but it is different from most of the Cuban rum that is bottled. This rum, based on molasses, comes from 2 casks that were aged for 10 years and blended together. Cuban rum tends to be a blend of “light rums” (distilled up to 90%) and “aguardientes” (distilled to 75%). This rum is a blend of 70% aguardiente and 30 % light rums. It was then bottled at a high proof and measured at 4.7g/L sugar, which could just be from the barrel.

Distillery: Cuba Ron S.A.

Bottler: Eminente

Region: Cuba

Still: Column Still

ABV: 55%

Nose: Lemon Tart, Milk Chocolate, Toasted Brown Sugar, Vanilla

Palate: Medium oily mouthfeel, Lemon Tart, Vanilla, Cinnamon, sharpie marker

Finish: Medium length finish, sharpie marker, Vanilla, touch of cinnamon, lemon

Conclusion: A very good rum that is quite different from the few Cuban rums I have had up to this point. The sharpie marker note is distinct as is the bit of heat that the rum has. The chocolate and sharp tart notes are pretty nice too. Overall this is a very good rum, but not one that climbs to great for me.
