St. George 13 Year “Agricole”

Review by: The Auditor

Review #1086; Rum #413

This is a 13 year aged Sugar Cane juice rum from California. They choose to call it Agricole, however, I feel that should be reserved for the French islands that produce agricole. Anyway, the fresh pressed cane juice is distilled in a copper pot still after fementation and was then aged for a non-disclosed amount of time. This rum sat in a warehouse for 13 years in French Oak before being bottled.. It is said that it was bottled at cask strength as it was about to fall below 40%. This was bottled for Bar Agricole. The sugarcane used for the juice came from California as well.

Distillery: St. George

Bottler: St. George

Region: California, USA

Still: Copper Pot still

ABV: 40%

Nose:  Fruity, Apple, Faint pear, Dark Chocolate, Cherry Cola

Palate: Thin, Watery. Apple, Must, Cherry Cola, faint nuttiness

Finish: Short, pop of cola, apple, dark chocolate

Conclusion: The nose on this is awesome and full of flavor. But then it falls flat on the palate for me. There is a good base there but it is missing something. Even if this is likely cask strength it feels a bit too far gone. Overall interesting considering the sources and ageing, but not as good as I would have liked.
