Whisky Jury “Undisclosed Caribbean” (Cuban) 44 Year (1978)

Review by: The Auditor

Review #1104; Rum #430

Well, here we have something pretty interesting. The oldest rum that I have been able to try up to this point. This is an “Undisclosed Caribbean” (Cuba) rum that was aged for 44 years before being bottled at cask strength with no additives or chill filtration. Bottled for The Whisky Jury let’s see how this really old rum performs.

Distillery: Unknown

Bottler: The Whisky Jury

Region: Cuba

ABV: 56.6%

Nose:  Burnt Brown Sugar, Vanilla, Oak Spice, Dark Chocolate, Leather, Nuttiness

Palate: Thick mouthfeel, Brown Sugar, motor oil, oak spice, dark chocolate, leather, a touch of raspberry, Nuttiness

Finish: Long finish, Dark Chocolate, espresso, burnt brown sugar, leather, touch of raspberry, vanilla cream, Nuttiness

Conclusion: This is an excellent rum. It leans heavily into the savory flavor profile in all the best ways. Espresso, dark chocolate, leather, at ouch of sweetness to balance it out. I was shocked at how good this rum is and I would happily drink it all the time. It is not over-oaked to me and is something that is both comforting and interesting.

Final Score: 91
