Review #1148; Rum #463
Here we have a special release from Don Q, the main brand for Destileria Serralles located in Puerto Rico. This rum is a blend of rums from single and multiple column distillations, likely indicated heavy and light column distilled rum. This rum was aged for 5-8 years in White American Oak casks before being finished for another 2 years in French Oak Cognac casks. It was then bottled with no additives and at a higher than usual proof for Don Q, 49.5%
Distillery: Destileria Serralles
Bottler: Destileria Serralles
Region: Puerto Rico
Cask: 5-8 Years ExBourbon, 2 years in French Oak Cognac Casks
ABV: 49.5%
Nose: Raspberry, Raisins, Touch of Leather, Vanilla, Clove, Nutmeg
Palate: Medium mouthfeel, Raspberry, Orange Peel, Raisins, Leather, vanilla, Clove, Nutmeg
Finish: Medium length finish, Orange Peel, Raisins, Leather, Vanilla, Clove, Dark Chocolate
Conclusion: Pretty great all things considered. A great example of how good a 100% column distilled rum can be. A good amount of that comes from the Cognac cask but it is not overpowering or over bearing. Good spices, the fruits, it all makes for a delicious rum.
