St. Lucia Chairman’s Reserve Master’s Selection 8

Review by: Raygun

Another rum from The Auditor. This is a combination of John Dore 1 pot still rum and Vendome pot still rum from St. Lucia distillery. Selected by the Eskimo Brothers barrel society. Reviewed from a sample, initially tasted blind. Rested about 15 minutes.

Distillery: Saint Lucia

Bottler: Saint Lucia

Region/style: Caribbean pot still rum

ABV: 59.8%

Age: 8 years. Distilled in 2012.

Cask type: Bourbon cask #13680608

Color: 1.4 tawny. Natural color. Non-chill-filtered.

Nose: Magic marker at first, maybe some rubber cement. Coconut cake, camphor, and a waxy quality. Old furniture. Papaya.

Palate: Tastes very briny. Caramel, coconut shrimp, lime, and beeswax. Camphor, mango, and buckwheat honey. There’s another kind of tartness, like goat cheese. Cake. Little touch of magic marker still.

Finish: Still very briny. Coconut, beeswax, camphor, and some clove. Missing some of the tartness from the palate. More oak, mango, and papaya. Nice richness to it.

Conclusion: Very tasty. Doesn’t drink like it’s 60%, but one definitely feels it after a while. It’s a little sneaky. Not quite up there with my favorites, but no real complaints. Just a really solid rum. Would be happy to drink it anytime.

Score: 83
