Review #1215; Rum #529
This rum comes to us from Bristol Spirits LTD, and old rum independent bottler located in the UK. This rum is a bottling from the West Indies Rum Distillery. This rum was distilled from molasses, aged for 26 years with a period of that ageing occurring in an Oloroso sherry cask. It was then bottled and sold.
I know there is talk of this rum being distilled on the famed “Rockley” still but per Bristol Spirits and the Rockley still is just a name. There was a pot still at WIRD that some of the so called Rockley Still rums came from, but per Richard Seale “There was never a still known as Rockley still in Barbados any more than there was a Batman who policed the streets of Bridgetown”
Distillery: West Indies Rum Distillery
Bottler: Bristol Spirits
Region: Barbados
Cask: Oloroso Sherry
ABV: 46%
Nose: Heavy Sherry. Figs, Black Pepper, Star Anise, Graham cracker, Dry erase marker
Palate: Medium mouthfeel, Figs, Black Pepper, Star Anise, Graham Cracker, Dry Erase Marker
Finish: Long finish, Caramel, Figs, Black pepper, Graham Cracker, Nutmeg, Cinnamon, Star Anise, Dry Erase Marker
Conclusion: Great rum, but the sherry is so heavy that it feels like it drowns out the rum.
