Velier Flag Series Fiji 12 Year 2012

Review by: The Auditor

Review #1257; Rum #564

This sample was provided to me by a producer, distributor, or some other industry source free-of-charge. No compensation, outside of the sample, was received and there were no strings attached.

This rum was bottled by Velier as part of their Flag series which highlights various countries. This rum was distilled from molasses on a pot still in 2012 where it aged in Fiji at origin for 2 years in an ex-bourbon cask. It then went to Europe and aged for 12 years in an ex-bourbon cask before being bottled at cask strength with no additives.

Distillery: South Pacific Distilleries

Bottler: Velier

Region: Fiji

Still: Pot

ABV: 64.5%

Cask: Ex-Bourbon

Nose: Touch of plastic, Vanilla, Black Pepper, Coriander, Floral, Lemon Zest, Brine

Palate: Thick oily mouthfeel, Plastic, Vanilla, Coriander, Floral, Apple, Lemon Zest, Brine

Finish: Medium length finish, Plastic, Lemon, Coriander, Vanilla, Floral, Brine

Conclusion: This is a great offering of aged Fiji rum from Velier. The plastic notes I like that the younger Fiji’s have had is here but it is tempered by the spices, a touch of vanilla sweetness and some fruits. Overall, one of the better Fiji offerings I have had and isn’t over oaked.
