Velier Foursquare Raconteur 17 Year 2006

Review #1269; Rum #574

This is a release done as a collaboration between Velier and Foursquare. This rum was distilled from molasses on pot and column stills. Part of the rum aged for 17 years in ex-bourbon in Barbados, while part of the rum aged for 5 years in ex-bourbon, and 12 years in ex-Oloroso sherry casks. This rum was then blended together and bottled with no additives at high proof.

Distillery: Foursquare

Bottler: Velier

Region: Barbados

Still: Pot &Column

ABV: 61%

Nose: Baking Spices, Nutmeg, Clove, Orange Peel, Dark Chocolate, Vanilla, nuttiness, leather

Palate: Thick oily mouthfeel, Orange Peel, Nutmeg, Clove, Orange Peel, Dark Chocolate, Allspice, nuttiness, leather

Finish: Long Finish, Orange Peel, Nutmeg, Clove, Dark Chocolate, Allspice, Vanilla, nuttiness, leather

Conclusion: This is one of the best aged Foursquares I have tried. Its thick and oily, the flavors are balanced well and pop. That oloroso cask brings a lot of baking spices and some leather rancio that brings this up another level flavor wise.
