Review #1270; Rum #575
This is a bottling of rum from the Savanna distillery located on Reunion Island. This rum was distilled on a column still and aged for between 10-15 years in ex-cognac and ex-port casks. All the ageing took place at Savanna in tropical conditions. The base rum was their Grand Arome mark and it was bottled at high proof with no additives.
Distillery: Savanna
Bottler: Savanna
Region: Barbados
Still: Column
ABV: 55.5%
Nose: Orange Peel, Sweaty Funk, Brine, slight metallic tinge, star anise, Mango, Mint, Menthol
Palate: Thick oily mouthfeel, Sweaty Funk, Brine, Star Anise, Mango, Metallic Tinge, Mint, Menthol
Finish:Long length finish, Brine, Star Anise, Mango, Metallic Tinge, Orange Peel, Mint, Menthol
Conclusion: I love aged Grand Arome from Savanna and this bottling is of no exception. Fruits, menthol, and that weird flavor I can only describe as a kind of sweaty funk that forms the backbone. A touch of that industrial metallic tinge pops in as well and the finish lasts forever. An expensive bottle, but a great one.
