Review by: Raygun

This is (or was a few months ago) the handfill distillery exclusive at Aberfeldy. A friend visiting Scotland brought it back and kindly shared it out along with other purchases from his trip. Reviewed from a sample. Rested about 15 minutes.
Distillery: Aberfeldy
Bottler: Aberfeldy
Region/style: Highlands single malt Scotch
ABV: 53.7%. Cask strength.
Age: 24 years. Distilled in 1999 and bottled in 2024.
Cask type: Ex-bourbon
Color: 1.1 burnished. Natural color and chill-filtered.
Nose: Classic. Apples and pears, caramel, honey, and a touch of grass. Rich with an appealing freshness.
Palate: Goes up a level here. Caramel tart, lemon sorbet, some rosemary. More orchard fruit. Nicely sweet with lots of depth. I taste the age, but it’s not drowned in oak.
Finish: Oaky of course, but much more to it. Rosemary and thyme, shortbread, lemon sorbet. Again has that long-aged character. Great length.
Conclusion: Beautiful stuff. Lots going on, and all very well balanced. Great illustration of what age can do, bringing out a ton of flavor. Not overoaked even with the age. I’d be happy to have a bottle, and it wouldn’t last that long if I did.
