The Transcontinental Rum Line is a series of bottlings that, according to LM&V, aims to showcase the diversity of rum production around the world. The line consists of rums from seven countries and one blended rum from three countries. The Panama entry is a column still molasses rum. Reviewed from a sample. Rested about 15 minutes.
Distillery: Unknown
Bottler: La Maison & Velier
Region/style: Panamanian column still molasses rum
ABV: 43%
Age: 6 years in Panama
Cask type: Presumably ex-bourbon barrels
Color: 0.8 deep gold. Natural color and free of additives
Price: $58 is the best I’ve found
Nose: Smells rummy. Caramel, pineapple, and some green olives. Something grassy.
Palate: Caramel, apricot and pineapple, and some vanilla. Mild spice, like cardamom and a little clove.
Finish: Thin here. A little caramel and a bit of spice left, but that’s about it.
Conclusion: The ABV is not doing this any favors. Just too mild to show very well. It’s pleasant and drinks easily, and could make for a good entry level rum. Price is in line with that. I like it well enough, though not the sort of thing I’d want a whole bottle of.
