Savanna Very Rare Cask 17 Year #2 2001

Review by: The Auditor

Review #1297; Rum #602

This is an aged grand arome rum from Savanna. Distilled from molasses it was fermented for 6 days and distilled in 2001 before being aged for 17 years in an ex-cognac barrel at location. It was then bottled at cask strength with no additives.

Distillery: Savanna

Bottler: Savanna

Region: Reunion Island

Still: Column

ABV: 51%

Nose:  Sweat, Brine, Guava, Passionfruit, touch of plastic, figs, plums, Nutmeg

Palate: Medium oily mouthfeel, Brine, Sweat, Passionfruit, Figs, Plums, Nutmeg, touch of bubblegum, copper

Finish:   Long Finish, Menthol, Star Anise, Brine, Passionfruit, vinegar, Nutmeg, Bubblegum, Copper, Soy Sauce,

Conclusion: Yeah this hits those aged Savanna Grand arome notes out of the park. Its weird, its intense, its funky, its got a bit of baking spice, the fruits. That classic, lack of a better term, sweaty note really forms the backbone of this, its intensely salty but is balanced out by everything else. These are truly some of the most unique tasting rums out there, but damn do I wish they weren’t so expensive. This is a $400+ dollar bottle that is far and away out of my price range.
