Review #1300; Rum #605
This rum was distilled from molasses on a pot still at the Hampden distillery in Jamaica. It was placed into what was likely an ex-bourbon cask and aged for 9 years, likely mostly in Europe, before being bottled at cask strength with no additives by compagnie de indes.
Distillery: Hampden Estate
Bottler: Compagnie de Indes.
Region: Jamaica
Still: Pot
ABV: 55%
Nose: Buttery Popcorn, Grilled Pineapple, Cement Glue, Lemon Peel, Magno, touch of soy sauce
Palate: Thick Oily mouthfeel, Grilled Pineapple, Cement Glue, Lemon, Vinegar, Soy Sauce, Mango
Finish: Medium length finish, Cement Glue, Black Pepper, Lemon, Crème brulee, Soy Sauce, Mango
Conclusion: As usual, another excellent offering from Hampden being released here. The flavors pop as well but the time in oak has tempered a bit of that, intense weirdness unaged DOK has. I will say, the 5 year tropically aged DOK I have tried is significantly better than this offering, but for an aged DOK this is still intense and quite excellent. Huge pops of fruits, weird industrial solvents, and spices make for your usual wild ride that Hampden provides.
