Ah, more JLP. Not something I will ever turn down. I don’t know exactly what it is about them, but they just work for me. I regret not buying a bottle of the Lot 73 when it was available. This is still in stock, so a great chance to try it before a possible purchase. Reviewed from a sample. Rested about 15 minutes.

Distillery: Jean-Luc Pasquet

Bottler: Jean-Luc Pasquet, selected by Aficionados and Fine Drams

Region/style: Grande Champagne Cognac

ABV: 54.2%. Cask Strength.

Age: Bottled in 2022, so around 47 years old

Cask type: Presumably French oak

Color: 1.7 burnt umber. Natural color and non-chillfiltered.

Price: $220 pre shipping

Nose: Oh my, yes. Orange, caramel, pears, and some spicy tones of ginger and saffron. A touch of chocolate. Chocolate gets denser with time.

Palate: Rich and silky, with a rather buttery mouthfeel. Candied orange, apples, caramel, saffron, and now a subtle earthy flavor. Some florals, too, but not aggressively perfumey. And not surprisingly, lots of oak. Powerful. With time, more orange, saffron, and nutmeg come out. Some of the chocolate of the nose. Has another gear after a while.

Finish: Burnt orange, caramel, tobacco, and chai tea. More spice flavor here, and rather tannic, indeed almost burnt. Not bitter at all, however. More rancio flavor, of a somewhat musty sort. Like the palate, comes alive with some time. Very long.

Conclusion: Fantastic. I think it tops lot 73 for me. Everything I love about JLP and indeed Cognac. Power, variety of flavors, integration. Definitely taste the age. Will strongly consider a bottle.
