Alamabique Serrano Vida Nativa Single Cask #1 Canamazo

Review by: The Auditor

Review #1311; Rum #616

This sample was provided to me by a producer, distributor, or some other industry source free-of-charge. No compensation, outside of the sample, was received and there were no strings attached.

This rum is from Alambique Serrano and is of the new Vida Nativa line, a line with labels inspired by endemic native live with single casks and blends.  This single cask came from Java varietal cane grown at Santa Maria Tlalixtac, Oaxaca at 2,500-3,800 feet above sea level. The cane was then crushed and its justice was distilled by Rommel Krassel in a copper Alembic pot still. It aged for 2 years in a new French Oak cask before aging a further 3 months in a new Hungarian oak cask. It was then bottled at cask strength with no additives.

Distillery: Krassel

Bottler: Alambique Serrano

Region: Mexico

Still: Pot

ABV: 59.7%

Nose:  Plum, Lime Peel, Vegetal, Allspice, Smarties, Coriander

Palate: Medium oily mouthfeel, Lime Peel, Plum, Vegetal, Smarties, Coriander, Allspice, and Cinnamon

Finish:  Medium length finish, Allspice, Cinnamon, Lime peel, Plum, Smarties

Conclusion: An impressive cask of rum overall. I feel as though the Hungarian oak brings a lot of spices to the rum I don’t normally get out of stuff from Alambique Serrano.
