Review #1326; Rum #631
This sample was provided to me by a producer, distributor, or some other industry source free-of-charge. No compensation, outside of the sample, was received and there were no strings attached.
This is a single cask of Rum bottled by Roaming Road from the island of Mauritius. Roaming Road is a relatively new American independent bottler that has released a number of rums, whisky, and brandy. This bottle here is fresh pressed sugar cane juice distilled on a column still, aged in ex-bourbon, then finished in an ex-cognac cask before being bottled at cask strength after 12 years of ageing.
Distillery: Unknown
Bottler: Roaming Road
Region: Mauritius.
Still: Column
ABV: 63.7%
Nose: Grapefruit Peel, Lemon, Black Pepper, Figs, Apple
Palate: Thick oily mouthfeel, Grapefruit Peel, Apple, Figs, Black Pepper, Lemon Zest, Gingerbread
Finish: Medium finish, Figs, Blackberry Jam, Lemon Zest, Gingerbread, Grapefruit, Dark Chocolate
Conclusion: This is a great rum. I was a bit worried the Cognac finish would be too heavy but I like the fruit and spice it brings without covering up the base distillate (which comes across as that heavy grapefruit pith note that I get)
Final Score: 88
