Review #1345; Rum #648
This sample was provided to me by a producer, distributor, or some other industry source free-of-charge. No compensation, outside of the sample, was received and there were no strings attached.
This rum was distilled on a column still from molasses at an unknown distillery in Panama, aged for 20 years in ex-bourbon, then bottled with no additives at a high proof.
Distillery: Unknown
Bottler: Roaming Road
Region: Panama
Still: Column
ABV: 59.1%
Nose: Dark Chocolate, Toasted Coconut, Vanilla
Palate: Medium mouthfeel, Raspberry, Toasted Coconut, Vanilla, a bit of menthol, Sharpie Marker
Finish: Medium length finish, Cola, Vanilla, Raspberry, Black Pepper, Sharpie Marker
Conclusion: I would not have expected this rum from Panama to be this good, but Im blown away. Its full bodied, rich in flavor, and has a weird sharpie marker undertone that you might hate or like, but makes it a standout for me in terms of different. The other flavors are great as well with a backbone of Dark Chocolate and oak spice. It teeters a bit heavy on the oak at times but the spices and marker come and reign it in.
