Review #1352; Rum #655
Inspired a bit by Lance over at the Lone Caner putting this bottle on his key rums of the world list, I decided to pull it off my shelf and give it a proper review. What we have here is a rum made at Destileria Serralles on the island of Puerto Rico. Per Lance’s research, it’s a blend of multi-column distilled light rums and single copper column heavy rums aged for 7 years in Puerto Rico before being bottled with no additives.
I will link Lance’s write up, which is great as usual here: https://thelonecaner.com/r1124/
Distillery: Destilería Serrallés
Bottler: Destilería Serrallés
Region: Puerto Rico
Still: Column
ABV: 40%
Nose: Orange Slice, Vanilla, Black Pepper, Clove, Cucumber, Dr. Pepper
Palate: Light Mouthfeel, Vanilla, Clove, Cucumber, Dr. Pepper, Orange Slice
Finish: Medium length finish, Dark Chocolate, Nutmeg, Orange Slice, Dr. Pepper, Vanilla, Nutmeg
Conclusion: I can longer buy this in Ohio because well, OHLQ doesn’t think we deserve anything but endless Bourbon, but this is really solid. It’s affordable, packs a good punch of flavor at 40%, and does well neat and in a cocktail. It’s pretty affordable and certainly stands heads and shoulders above Bacardi. The folks down at Destilería Serrallés continue to show they know how to make good rum.
