Review #1356; Rum #659
Here we have a bottle of rum from independent bottlers Bedford Park, a new player on the independent bottler market. This Foursquare rum was distilled from molasses on Barbados, and aged for 14 years in a once used bourbon cask before being aged for another 3 years in a once used bourbon cask. It was then bottled at cask strength with no additives. Of note, reviewer and rum writer Rum Revelation’s helped select this cask. So let’s see how it performs.
Distillery: Foursquare
Bottler: Bedford Park
Region: Barbados
Still: Pot & Column Blend
ABV: 58.8%
Nose: Chai Vanilla, Dark Chocolate, Allspice, Nutmeg, Black Tea, Toasted Coconut
Palate: Thick oily mouthfeel, Vanilla Chai, Dark Chocolate, Nutmeg, Allspice, Clove, Sandalwood, Toasted Coconut
Finish: Long finish, Black Pepper, Vanilla Chai, Dark Chocolate, Black Tea, Clove, Nutmeg, Toasted Coconut
Conclusion: I will admit, when it comes to bottlings of Foursquare, 99% of the time I say just go for something bottled by Richard under the actual Foursquare brand, but this is one of the best independently bottled Foursquare expression I have tried. Whether that comes from the 14 years of tropical ageing Im not sure but this is a home rum for me. It’s just that classic ex-bourbon Foursquare profile but so well balanced and punchy. I just want to drink it all night.
