Review #1363; Rum #666

From dependent bottler Habitation Velier we have a new offering of High Ester Reunion Rum (HERR) from the Savanna distillery located on the island of La Reunion. This rum was distilled from molasses and double distilled on a pot still after fermented for 11 days. It is then bottled at a high proof with no additives. The original HV Savanna HERR was one of my early forays into weird rum and one of my favorite, so lets see how this one holds up.

Distillery: Savanna

Bottler: Habitation Velier

Region: Reunion

Still: Pot

ABV: 62%

Nose: Pungent, Juicy Fruit Bubblegum, Vanilla, Cotton Candy, Salted Lemon Peel, Floral, Blackberry, Eucalyptus, Grapefruit, Strawberry

Conclusion: If I went back and re-reviewed the OG HERR I’d give it a 10 just with how singular an experience it is, how much I like to drink it, and this one is exactly the same for me. This rum holds a special place for me and is something I feel every rum nerd has to experience at least once in their life. At the end of the day these are my reviews so I can hand out the scores I want and I can’t think of a better rum sipping experience than this. Plus, its really damn fun to play with in cocktails.
