Review #1365; Rum #668
This sample was provided to me by a producer, distributor, or some other industry source free-of-charge. No compensation, outside of the sample, was received and there were no strings attached.
Habitation Velier is a dependent bottler who works very closely with the distilleries they source their rums from. This bottling comes from Renegade, a now close distiller in Grenada that focused on sugarcane varietals and the plots of land they grew on to highlight terrior. This release was distilled from fresh pressed cane juice from Cain sugarcane grown on Old Bacolet. It was distilled on a pot still then bottled at a high strength with no additives.
Distillery: Renegade
Bottler: Habitation Velier
Region: Grenada
Still: Pot
ABV: 55%
Nose: Fresh Squeezed lemon juice, Brine
Palate: Medium mouthfeel, Lemon Juice, Brine, Earthy
Finish: Medium length finish, Brine, Rubbery, Peppery
Conclusion: This is a fine cane juice rum. It has a nice pop of brine and lemon to it and it is quite earthy. It’s hard to put into words but it’s missing something to take it to that next level for me. Im not sure what it is but it’s overall how I felt about most of the offerings I’ve tried from Renegade. Habitation Velier did a young aged release that I thought was great but this one is a step below that. Still a quality rum, but not my favorite.
