Cheramie Queen’s Share Blanc

Review by: The Auditor

Review #1367; Rum #670

Here we have a new bottling from Cheramie, a product line distilled at the Porchjam distillery located in New Orleans, Louisiana. This rum was distilled from fresh pressed sugar cane juice from cane grown in Louisiana cane fields and distilled on a copper pot still. I’ll link a great article from the American Rum Report on this process for Cheramie.

Queen’s share refers to a predistillation of the tails cut from the previous years harvest for Cheramie. This rum is then rested in stainless steel for at least six months before being bottled 50%. Let’s see how his new product is. Fun fact, the label on this bottle has been produced from bagasse, a waste product from the milling of sugarcane.

Distillery: Cheramie

Bottler: Cheramie

Region: New Orleans

Still: Pot

ABV: 50%

Nose: Lemon, Brine, Touch of Apple, Toasted Coconut, Vanilla

Palate: Medium oily mouthfeel, Apple, Toasted Coconut, Lemon, Vanilla, Lime Peel

Finish: Medium length finish, Black Pepper, Lime Peel, Lemon, Toasted Coconut

Conclusion: I think this is a great rum. It’s delicious and powerful neat and I can’t wait to play with it in cocktails. It’s briney, fruity, and a bit spicy. If there was a bottle I would hold up to represent unaged American rums, this would be on the shortlist of the best out there.
