Review #1369; Rum #672
We have here another rum from the Foursquare Exceptional Cask series, the 25th in that line. This is a blend of molasses based rum distilled on pot and column still. One part of that rum aged for 10 years in ex-bourbon before aging for another 4 years in ex-calvados casks. The other part of the blend aged for 14 years in ex-bourbon before being blended together. All this ageing was done in Barbados and it was bottled with no additives.
Distillery: Foursquare
Bottler: Foursquare
Region: Barbados
Still: Pot & Column blend
ABV: 61%
Nose: Nutty, Candied Ginger, Clove, Dark Chocolate, Toasted Coconut
Palate: Medium oily mouthfeel, Orange Peel, Espresso, Toasted Nuts, Blackberry Jam, Toasted Coconut, Green Apple Skin
Finish: Medium length finish, Orange Peel, Espresso, Toasted Nuts, Blackberry jam, Candied Ginger, Green Apple Skin
Conclusion: The Foursquare Exceptional Cask Series are almost always great and this one is another success in that line. Great classic flavors here with the dark chocolate and toasted coconut but theres a tinge of extra spice and fruits that I think the Calvados cask brings. Some folks may go searching for a bit heavier Calvados influence but I think it’s a pretty reigned in experience here.
