Review #1370; Rum #673
Here we have a bottling of rum from Cheramie, a 100% fresh pressed cane juice rum being produced at the Porchjam distillery in New Orleans Louisiana. This rum is a blend of a rum aged in ex-bourbon casks and a portion of the Cheramie unaged Alternative Yeast, which is a blending component that bring a bit more funk to the mix. This blend was bottled for Anna’s, a bar in New Orleans.
Distillery: Porchjam
Bottler: Cheramie (Porchjam)
Region: New Orleans, Louisana
Still: Pot
ABV: 55.4%
Nose: Pungent and Fruity. Pineapple, Over-ripe banana, Cantaloupe, Brine, Honey, Black Pepper, Vanilla Wafer, Clove
Palate: Thick oily mouthfeel, Over-ripe banana, Cantaloupe, Brine, Honey, Vanilla Wafer, Pepper, Clove, Minerality
Finish: Long finish, Brine, Black Pepper, Honey, Over-Ripe banana, Hay, Vanilla Wafer, Minerality
Conclusion: Wow, this blend knocks it out of the park. It has pungent fruit notes that are really intense but it also has that nice aged component and they work really well together. Its savory, its sweet, a bit of umami. It’s quite an excellent blend of aged and unaged rums that sing together. What an excellent blend.
