Foursquare Equidem

Review by: The Auditor

Review #1371; Rum #674

Equidem is another bottling in the Foursquare Exceptional Cask Series, number 27 in this case. This rum is a blend of pot and column molasses distillate. Part of the rum was matured for 5 years in ex-bourbon and another 9 years in ex-Black Muscat casks. It was then bottled at a high proof with no additives.

Distillery: Foursquare

Bottler: Foursquare

Region: Barbados

Still: Pot & Column blend

ABV: 61%

Nose: Rich Dark Fruits, Blackberry, Figs, Plum, Clove, Allspice, Leather

Palate: Medium oily mouthfeel, Blackberry, Plum, Figs, Clove, Allspice, Vanilla Chai, Ginger, Leather

Finish:  Long finish, Blackberry, Plum, Figs, Clove, Ginger, Allspice, Vanilla Chai

Conclusion: Man rich dark fruits, spices, some savory leather, this is a real stunner of a Foursquare rum. In the upper echelons of Exceptional Cask Series releases for sure. The palate and finish are thick and luscious and the heat is well balanced too. This probably has some “heavier” influence from that Black Muscat cask but it works just so well with the Foursquare distillate.
