Foursquare Convocation

Review #1373; Rum #676

Here we have another bottling from Foursquare, that famous Barbados distillery. This release is from the Exceptional Cask Series line and is the 28th release in that series. This rum is a blend of pot and column distillate from a molasses base. The blend then consisted of ex-bourbon casks aged for 14 years, ex-Madeira casks aged for 14 years, and casks of ex-bourbon aged for 10 years with a second maturation of ex-Madeira for 4 years. All these were aged, blended, and bottled at the Foursquare distillery and bottled with no additives.

Distillery: Foursquare

Bottler: Foursquare

Region: Barbados

Still: Pot & Column blend

ABV: 62%

Nose: Raspberry, Dark Chocolate, Vanilla, Coconut Flakes, Sandalwood, Star Anise, Leather

Palate: Thick oily mouthfeel, Raspberry, Dark Chocolate, Star Anise, Nutmeg, Leather, Black Tea

Finish:  Long finish, Raspberry, Dark Chocolate, Star Anise, Star Anise, Nutmeg, Leather, Black Tea

Conclusion: The Madeira cask brings a wonderful strangeness that I don’t find it many Foursquare bottlings but good lord does it work, a raspberry star anise flavor forms the backbone that works wonderfully with the base distillate. This is one of the best bottlings of Foursquare they’ve done, and is my favorite bottle of Foursquare rum I’ve had.
