Glenburgie 28 (1995) Spirits Hunter

Review by: Raygun

Spirits Hunter is the private label for HNWS. Tony the owner does a lot of cask picks, mostly partnering with other IBs, but some he releases under his own brand. Sampled this one at the shop and was immediately taken with it. Rested about 15 minutes.

Nose: That’s some fruity Glenburgie. Mango, passion fruit, muskmelon, and a hint of candied ginger. Starburst candy. There’s some hefty oak, too. Could it be a first-fill hogshead? Brings a bit of Tajin spice.

Palate: The tropical theme continues. Passion fruit, mango, pineapple, and melon. Lime panna cotta. Takes me back to a mango-passion fruit eclair I had recently. Wonderfully tart, which really makes it pop. Great creamy texture, with some chocolate ganache.

Finish: Vanilla turns up, and condensed milk on this tropical fruit medley. The creamy texture (and taste) persists. Mango pudding, strawberries, lime, passion fruit. There’s the chocolate again. Great mouthfeel. More spicy oak flavor.

Conclusion: I’m in love. That’s pretty much it.

Score: 93
