Farthofer Organic Wild Plum Brandy

Review by: Raygun

Farthofer organic farm and distillery is located in Öhling, Austria. They grow some of their ingredients and source others from other organic farms. They make a huge variety of spirits: brandies, liqueurs, vodka, gin, whisky….I’m somewhat puzzled how wild plums can be certified organic. I suppose it’s more of a variety of plum than literally growing wild. I picked this up on a visit to Austria as a souvenir, honestly in part because of the name (it appealed to my inner 14-year-old). Rested about 15 minutes.

Distillery: Farthofer

Bottler: Farthofer

Region/style: Austrian eau de vie

ABV: 40%

Age: N/A

Color: 0.0 clear

Nose: Plums. A rather sharp variety. Somewhat woodsy and green.

Palate: Plums. More rounded than the nose, but also woodsy. Not an eating sort of plum. Slight roughness, but it drinks pretty easily. It has a nice freshness.

Finish: To no surprise, more plums. Minimally sweet. No off flavors.

Conclusion: I’m not very sure what to say about this. It’s made from plums, and that’s what it tastes like. I like plums. I like this. Plums good.
