Review #1444; Rum #743
This sample was provided to me by a producer, distributor, or some other industry source free-of-charge. No compensation, outside of the sample, was received and there were no strings attached.
Here we have a new project from PM sprits,The Rums of Mexico (MX Rums). From the same folks that brought you 5 Sentidos, Alambique Serrano, and Cañada, this new brand line sets out to explore traditional and modern cane spirits found in Mexcio. These spirits are often called locally aguardiente, cañita, chinguirito, cañazo, or ron.
This aguardiente was distilled by Orlando Vázquez in Tlaltetela, Veracrúz Mexico. He pressed fresh cane juice from two varieties of cane, 290 and CP 421. After fermentation the aguardiente is distilled on a four-plate, continuous copper still heated by firewood. It is then bottled with no additives.

Damn, this is just so good. It’s rich and full of flavor. Full on savory assault with campfire smoke, black pepper, brine, and brought to balance with a bit of fruit and lime pith. It’s a rum for mezcal lovers and unaged rum lovers alike. It’s very complex and has a ton going on. This whole series so far has shown the diversity of rums as each is radically different from another. An excellent bottling from rums of Mexico.
