The Wild Parrot Hampden 11 Year (2009)

Review by: The Auditor

Review #1421; Rum #750

This rum comes from independent bottler Wild Parrot. This rum was distilled at Hampden estate using molasses, water, muck and dunder. IT fermented wildly for a long time before being distilled on a copper pot still. It was then put into an ex-bourbon cask where it aged for 11 years, with 9 of that in Europe and 2 in Jamaica. It was the bottled at cask strength with no additives. This is the DOK marque, Hampden’s highest marque and clocks in at 1500-600 gr/laap.

Distillery: Hampden Estate

Bottler: Wild Parrot

Region: Jamaica

Still: Pot

ABV: 63.8%

Nose: Overly-Ripe Pineapple, Vinegar, Soy Sauce, Allspice, Dark Chocolate

Palate: Thick oily mouthfeel, Over-Ripe Pineapple, Cement Glue, Soy Sauce, Vinegar, Allspice, Lemon, Sharpie Marker

Finish: Long finish, Over-Ripe Pineapple, Mango, Cement Glue, Soy Sauce, Vinegar

Pungent, in your face flavor. It’s like a science experiment in a glass in all the best ways. An intense tropical fruit and spice forward experience. A wee bit of water really unlocks the fruit flavors. Just an all around great bottling, though I wish it did not drink so hot. Which does bring it down a bit compared to other aged DOK I’ve had.

Final Score: 88
