Mount Gay Bedford Park 24 Year 2001

Review by: The Auditor

Review #1457; Rum #756

Here we have a bottling from independent bottler Bedford Park. This rum was distilled from molasses on a pot still at the Mount Gay distillery in Saint Michael. Once distilled it was put into a once used ex-bourbon cask where it aged at origin for 5 years. It was then sent to Europe where it aged for another 19 years before begin bottled at cask strength with no additives and was non-chill filtered.

Distillery: Mount Gay

Bottler: Bedford Park

Region: Barbados

Still: Pot

ABV: 49.4%

Nose: Vanilla Cream, Orange Peel, Floral, Dark Chocolate, Leather, Mango

Palate: Medium Oily Mouthfeel, Vanilla Cream, Orange Peel, Dark Chocolate, Leather, Ginger, Mango

Finish: Long Finish, Dark Chocolate, Leather, Orange Peel, Espresso, Ginger, Mango

Very unique bottling for me as I don’t often see any IB Mount Gay floating about. The ginger adds a nice pop of complexity to this. The undercurrent of dark chocolate and mango make for a great flavor and give the age of this rum its still very bright and vibrant with the fruit. Overall a great bottling for me.
