Aerstone 10 Year Land Cask
Reviewer: zSolaris

Distillery: Ailsa Bay.
Region: Lowland.
Age: 10 Year.
ABV: 40%.
Price: $24.99.
Color: 1.0, Deep Copper.
Nose: There’s a bit of smoke, it is quite light. Some burnt sugar presents itself but that’s about it.
Palate: Very similar to the nose. There’s a very light amount of smoke, a bit of burnt sugar, and then a little bit of a black pepper smoked ham.
Finish: Extremely short. Not much going on.
Conclusion: Normally, I see a bottle priced at twenty something dollars and then just roll on past. When I had grabbed this particular bottle however, I had just been working on a data analytics course and project where I fed in all of my whisky review data into some fun tools and ultimately created a model with it. The model predicted I would dislike (rated below 80 I believe was the cutoff) anything priced below $30. While I probably could tell you that before all of this fancy data modeling, it felt like a fun and easy excuse to pick something up like this and put that to the test. Ultimately, the model was right (shock)! This whisky’s ultimate selling point is that it is really cheap and that’s about all that it has going for it. It’s inoffensive and might do enough to scratch the smoky itch, but ultimately it doesn’t seem to be worth the calories.
Rating: 70.
Scoring Legend:
- 95-100: As good as it gets. Jaw-dropping, eye-widening, unforgettable whisky.
- 90-94: Sublime, a personal favorite in its category.
- 85-89: Excellent, a standout dram.
- 80-84: Quite good. Quality stuff.
- 75-79: Decent whisky worth tasting.
- 70-74: Meh. It’s definitely drinkable, but it can do better.
- 60-69: Not so good. I might not turn down a glass if I needed a drink.
- 50-59: Save it for mixing.
- 0-49: Blech.
Serge at Whisky Fun scored this 75 points, which I thought made it worth a try when it was heavily discounted by an Australian retailer.
Serge must have been feeling very generous that day. I agree 100% with your review.
