Review #1415; Rum #714
This is a batch of pure single rum from the Long Pond distillery in Jamaica bottled by dependent Italian bottlers Velier. This rum was made from molasses fermented with wild natural yeasts, distilled on a pot still, and aged for 18 years in Jamaica before being bottled at high proof with no additives. It is the STC❤E is a mark of the Cambridge Estate distillery, closed in 1947, reproduced by Long Pond, which clocks in at 550-700 gr/hlpa in terms of esters.
Distillery: Lond Pond
Bottler: Veiler
Region: Jamaica
Still: Pot
ABV: 60%
Nose: Pineapple Bark, Mango, Soy Sauce, Motor Oil, Vanilla Chai, Espresso
Palate: Thick oily mouthfeel, Mango, Pineapple Bark, Vanilla Chai, Espresso, Orange Peel
Finish: Long finish, Orange Peel, Mango, Pineapple, Vanilla Chai, Espresso
An excellent way to kick off the year, this rum is a testament to what Lond Pond can do. Industrial backbone but bursting with tropical fruits all throughout. Its incredibly balanced and easy to drink without going into being overly intense (for me anyway). We can only hope that someday Long Pond can release bottles like this under their own brand.
