Review #1425; Rum #724
Here we have a botting of rum from La Maison and Velier, the Flag Series, which celebrates rums from different countries. This bottling comes from Vietnam and is a rum made from fresh pressed cane juice. This rum is fermented with wild yeasts before beignb distilled on a French Copper Column still. The rum then aged for 6 years in Vietnam in an ex-cognac cask before being bottled with no additives. This single cask is a USA exclusive bottling.
I will note for readers, I did try the EU release of this bottling which I will link here
Distillery: La Distillerie d’Indochine
Bottler: LMDW
Region: Vietnam
Still: Column
ABV: 56.5%
Nose: Apple, Earthy, Nutmeg, Floral, Brine
Palate: Medium oily mouthfeel, Apple, Nutmeg, Floral, Figs, Dark Chocolate, Brine, touch of Cinnamon
Finish: Medium oily mouthfeel, Apple, Nutmeg, Floral, Figs, Dark Chocolate, Brine, touch of Cinnamon
This is better than the EU cask I tried, which I presume is a sister cask. The cask management is excellent here because aged cane juice around 6 years doesn’t usually do it for me. The fruits pop, it’s light, floral, and refreshing. Theres some very good baking spice on the back end. Overall for me it’s a great rum.
