Review by: The Muskox

This bottle was buried in a tasting lineup from the other week, the same one that sampled Glen Gariochs, Macallans, and mystery Islays among others. As you can see, it was a pretty big night, and it would have been easy for a lighter dram such as this one to have been lost in the chaos. But I figure I recorded just enough notes for this whisky that it’s worth publishing a review rather than just saying nothing at all.
So, what’s “Old Rhosdhu”? It’s a Loch Lomond distillate that features a high proportion of spirit from the famous Lomond still. This gives the whisky a particularly light and fruity character. They’re not particularly common, but I’ve managed to come across one before, also a ’94, and I quite liked it. Let’s see how this one stacks up.
As for the bottler, Bedford Park, I thought I’d seen some bad slop-filled indie bottler websites before, but this one takes the cake. Their about us page contains AI art (not even good AI art!) and no information whatsoever. Shame.
Distillery: Loch Lomond.
Bottler: Bedford Park.
Region/Style: Highland single malt.
ABV: 46.7%. Cask strength.
Age: 30 years. Distilled in 1994. Bottled in 2025.
Cask type: Cask #04, a refill ex-bourbon hogshead.
Price: $395 CAD locally.
Nose: Seems familiar from my previous Old Rhosdhu experience. Very light and rather sweet nose, with cereals, banana, and lime. Slightly grassy. There are some old books buried in there somewhere.
Palate: Light body. Arrives sugary – cereal in milk. Very old-whisky with honey and old books. Rather mild on the oak.
Finish: Medium-short, sweet. More old-whisky flavours, along with honey, orange blossom, and lime.
Conclusion: I wasn’t sure whether I had enough notes from this tasting to publish this review, but I recorded a score and some specific thoughts at the time. This is probably better than the other Old Rhosdhu I’ve tried. That cereal-milk flavour is kind of awesome in a nostalgic sort of way. There’s good old whisky flavour here as well. I wish it was a little bit richer.
Final Score: 85.
