Review #1471; Rum #770
Here we have a bottle of rum from Spinnaker, a new American Independent rum bottler based out of Austin Texas. This Jamaica rum from Worthy Park was distilled from molasses in 2015 after a long fermentation period on a copper pot still. It is the Worthy Park Medium (WPM) marque, coming in at 120-236 gr/hlAA. It aged for 8.8 years in the UK in an ex-bourbon cask before being recasked into a Still-Austin ex-bourbon cask for .4 years in Texas. It was then bottled at cask strength with no additives.
Distillery: Worthy Park
Bottler: Spinnaker
Region: Jamaica
Still: Copper Pot Still
ABV: 57.9%
Nose: Vanilla, Banana Bread, Sandalwood, Coriander, Nutmeg, Toasted Brown Sugar
Palate: Medium mouthfeel, Vanilla, Banana Bread, Sandalwood, Coriander, Nutmeg, Toasted Brown Sugar, Black Tea
Finish: Medium Length Finish, Vanilla, Banana Bread, Sandalwood, Coriander, Nutmeg, Toasted Brown Sugar, Black Tea
This is a very good example of Worthy Park rum. You get that nice banana bread note all throughout, the spices are pretty nice. There is a heavy dose of vanilla and at times it leans a little too into the black tea note, but overall a very good gateway to Jamaican rum.
